From Two Jackfruit Trees To Marathottam

Marathottam began with two jackfruit trees at a new home. During the season, the trees produced an abundance of delicious jackfruit, inspiring the idea of turning the fruit into value-added products rather than allowing it to go to waste.

Four women were trained to prepare traditional products including jackfruit fries, unniyappam, ada, varatty, puffs, cutlets and puzhukku using both ripe and unripe jackfruit.

The range later expanded into traditional snacks such as aval vilayichathu, kuzhalappam and cheeda. Technical support was also received from ICAR Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Mitraniketan.
